Find empty Shopify collection pages before search engines and customers do.
Shopify Empty Collections Miner is a free Chrome extension built for SEOs, Shopify merchants, developers, and e-commerce agencies. It scans a public Shopify storefront, discovers its accessible collection pages, and identifies collections that contain zero products.
Empty collection pages can create poor user experiences, leave unnecessary low-value URLs accessible to search engines, weaken internal linking structures, and become an issue during technical SEO audits.
With one click, the extension scans the active Shopify store, checks its public collections, identifies empty collection URLs, and lets you export the results for further analysis.
No Shopify Admin access is required.
Key Features
- Automatic Shopify Collection Scanner
Open any public Shopify storefront and click Scan Empty Collections. The extension automatically discovers publicly accessible collections through Shopify storefront endpoints and checks them for products. - Empty Collection Verification
Each collection is checked to confirm whether it contains zero products. When product-count data is unavailable, the extension performs an additional storefront check before classifying the collection as empty. - Real-Time Scan Progress
Follow the audit directly inside the extension with live progress information showing how many collections were discovered, checked, and confirmed empty. - CSV, Excel and URL Export
Export detected empty collections as CSV or Excel files for technical SEO audits, client reports, cleanup tasks, or development tickets. You can also copy all empty collection URLs directly to your clipboard. - Adjustable Scan Controls
Set the number of collections retrieved per page and configure the delay between requests. This makes it easier to scan both smaller Shopify stores and larger catalogs responsibly. - Collection Titles in Export
Choose whether collection titles should be included alongside URLs, handles, product counts, status, and scan timestamps.
Why Check Shopify Stores for Empty Collections?
Shopify stores change constantly.
Products sell out. Seasonal inventory disappears. Categories are replaced. Merchandising structures change. Old promotional collections may remain accessible long after their products have been removed.
Over time, this can leave collection URLs with no products behind.
Finding these URLs manually becomes difficult on stores with hundreds or thousands of collections.
Shopify Empty Collections Miner automates that discovery process so you can quickly identify pages that may need to be redirected, removed, noindexed, repopulated, or reviewed as part of a broader SEO and merchandising strategy.
How It Works
The extension works with public Shopify storefront data.
It first retrieves publicly accessible collections from the active store. Each discovered collection is then checked for product availability. Collections confirmed to contain zero products are added to the results.
The extension uses Shopify’s public storefront endpoints and does not connect to the Shopify Admin API.
It does not modify products, collections, themes, redirects, or any other store data.
Built for Technical SEO Audits
Empty collection discovery can be useful during Shopify migrations, category cleanups, inventory changes, redesigns, client onboarding, and routine technical SEO audits.
Instead of manually opening collection pages or crawling large lists and investigating them individually, the extension provides a focused list of collection URLs that currently contain no products.
The exported results can then be reviewed alongside crawl data, Google Search Console information, internal links, backlinks, traffic, and indexation status before deciding what action should be taken.
Privacy and Permissions
Shopify Empty Collections Miner is designed to operate locally in your browser.
Scan results stay on your device and are not sent to an external server.
The extension requests three Chrome permissions.
activeTab is used to access the Shopify storefront currently open in your browser when you initiate a scan.
scripting is used to run the storefront scanner within the active page context.
storage is used to save extension settings such as your preferred request delay and collection page limit locally in Chrome.
The extension does not request access to all websites, Shopify Admin, customer information, orders, private store data, or your browsing history.
Privacy Policy
Information We Collect
Shopify Empty Collections Miner does not collect personal information.
We do not collect names, email addresses, account information, customer information, Shopify credentials, browsing histories, or payment information.
The extension does not collect the collection URLs or scan results generated during an audit.
How the Extension Uses Data
Storefront information is processed locally in the browser for the purpose of identifying empty public Shopify collections.
The extension communicates directly with the Shopify storefront being scanned. No proxy, external scraping API, analytics platform, or third-party processing server is used for the scan.
Scan results remain inside your browser unless you choose to export or copy them yourself.
Cookies and Tracking
The extension does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, behavioral tracking, or analytics services.
Data Sharing
Because scan information is not transmitted to our servers, we do not sell, rent, trade, or share scan data with third parties.
Shopify Access
Shopify Empty Collections Miner does not connect to the Shopify Admin API and does not require access to a store owner’s Shopify account.
It only analyzes information exposed through the store’s public storefront.
Data Security
The extension is designed around local browser execution and minimal Chrome permissions.
No external database is used to store scanned domains, collection URLs, scan histories, or generated results.
Limitations
The extension analyzes publicly accessible Shopify storefront information. Some stores may block standard Shopify JSON endpoints, use custom firewall rules, operate behind password protection, or use headless storefront architectures that do not expose standard Shopify collection endpoints.
Collections that are private, hidden from the storefront, restricted to specific customers, or otherwise unavailable publicly cannot be detected.
For very large stores, use an appropriate request delay to avoid sending excessive requests to the storefront.
Responsible Use
Use Shopify Empty Collections Miner on stores you own, manage, or have permission to audit.
The extension includes adjustable request delays to help keep scans responsible when working with large Shopify catalogs.
Need to Find Sold-Out Shopify Products Too?
Empty collections are only one part of Shopify inventory cleanup.
If you also need to discover product URLs where every variant is sold out, use Shopify SoldOut URL Miner, my companion Chrome extension for Shopify SEO audits.
Together, the two tools can help identify both empty category pages and sold-out product URLs across public Shopify storefronts.
